Trumpeter Miles Davis and saxophonist John Coltrane were two extraordinary soloists and bandleaders, revolutionary figures in the history of jazz. From 1955 to 1960, Coltrane was part of the Miles Davis Quintet/Sextet, a period that gave birth to legendary albums such as Kind of Blue and ’Round About Midnight. In 1960 their paths diverged, yet both went on to enjoy enormously successful careers: Davis by constantly exploring new ensembles and musical languages, and Coltrane with his celebrated quartet featuring McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones, with masterpieces such as A Love Supreme.

Their compositions remain true pillars of the jazz repertoire: pieces like So What (Miles Davis) and Giant Steps (John Coltrane) are known by every musician and enthusiast. In 2026, both would have celebrated their 100th birthdays—a unique occasion to dedicate a special program to these giants of music, entrusted to performers of the highest caliber.

New York trumpeter Joe Magnarelli, for more than thirty years among the world’s leading exponents of the instrument, has collaborated with Lionel Hampton, Brother Jack McDuff, Toshiko Akiyoshi, Maria Schneider, Ray Barretto, and many others. Saxophonist Kirk MacDonald, regarded as the leading voice of Canadian jazz, has recorded over fifty albums and worked with such greats as Tom Harrell, Jack DeJohnette, Mike Stern, and Eddie Henderson. Special guest of the tour is the young Canadian clarinetist Virginia MacDonald, a rising star of North American jazz.

Completing the sextet are three exceptional musicians: Oliver Kent, a Viennese pianist among the most acclaimed in Europe; Neil Swainson, a legendary bassist who has performed with George Shearing, Joe Henderson, and Woody Shaw; and Bernd Reiter, Austrian drummer and winner of the Hans Koller Award, now active between Europe and New York, with collaborations including Don Menza, Harold Mabern, Cyrus Chestnut, and many more.

This international lineup, bringing together talent from the United States, Canada, and Austria, is a genuine all-star ensemble, promising an unforgettable evening of exhilarating swing.
