For over twenty years, bassist Alain Bédard has led the Auguste Quartet with charisma and vision, bringing its original music to stages all over the world — from Europe to Asia, from the Americas to North Africa. With six albums already released – including Bluesy Lunedi, nominated for both the ADISQ and the JUNO Awards – the quartet has established itself as one of the most authoritative and creative ensembles in contemporary Canadian jazz.
In 2024, to mark the 25th anniversary of the historic Effendi Records, founded by Bédard himself, the Auguste Quartet presents its new album Particules Sonores: a musical journey that explores sound as living matter, made of vibrations spreading through space and time like true particles of energy.
The current lineup brings together four leading figures of the jazz scene:
• Mario Allard, saxophones – a versatile and vibrant voice;
• Marie-Fatima Rudolf, piano – refined and sensitive, blending melodic elegance with inventive freshness;
• Michel Lambert, drums – tireless groove and boundless imagination;
• Alain Bédard, double bass and composition – the group’s creative driving force.
Each musician contributes original compositions, enriching the quartet’s sound palette: from the intense lyricism of Terrain Neutre to the ironic storytelling of A Goose Story, the evocative atmospheres of Profumo Chaneleone, and the luminous energy of Mel & Less.
With Particules Sonores, the Auguste Quartet not only celebrates two decades of achievement, but also renews its mission: to create music that blends sophistication and immediacy, tradition and innovation, emotion and intellect. An intense, elegant, and deeply human sound experience.
